Hospitality interior design is all about curating the perfect blend of atmosphere, aesthetics, and functionality—much like the precision and artistry of a chef crafting a signature dish. Architectural Studio YoDezeen has brought this philosophy to life in their recent project, the stunning fish restaurant CATCH in Kiev. The result is a sophisticated yet vibrant space that perfectly balances raw industrial elements with refined nautical inspirations.
The transformation of the restaurant began with bold architectural changes: old windows were replaced with sleek thin-profile façades, inner balconies were removed to open up the space, and the staircase was relocated for a more fluid layout. The interior design is thoughtfully divided into two sections: the ground floor hosts the main dining hall, while the first floor features a banquet area split into a bar with a communal table and a dining room showcasing a striking three-meter seafood display, wine racks, and open refrigerators.
The design makes masterful use of lighting and reflections, with a multitude of pendant lamps and glossy surfaces amplifying the sense of space and filling the restaurant with a dynamic interplay of light. In contrast, unprocessed materials like intricate brickwork, exposed concrete columns, and raw metal details bring an industrial edge, creating a bold textural juxtaposition.
As a fish-focused restaurant, CATCH embraces marine-inspired interior decor in both subtle and striking ways. Three-tiered aquariums integrated into large shelving units, a bar with an open window where chefs prepare fresh fish in full view of diners, and glazed monochrome tiles behind the bar, evocative of seawater and algae, all pay homage to the sea.
This project is a prime example of how interior designers can infuse a space with a narrative, weaving together the essence of a restaurant’s concept with the technical expertise of hospitality interior design. CATCH not only serves as a culinary destination but also as an immersive visual experience, reflecting the artistry and creativity of YoDezeen’s design approach.
