Beyond the red brick façade of this Federation home, an elegant and understated home interior extension unfolds—one that pays homage to the past while embracing the present. Designed by The Stylesmiths™, this renovation offers a thoughtful interplay between heritage details and contemporary refinement, resulting in a timeless yet effortlessly liveable family residence.
With a brief centred on liveability, adaptability, and charm, The Stylesmiths™ have breathed new life into original architectural elements, seamlessly integrating them into a soothing, sophisticated, and highly functional home interior design for a family of five.
Every design decision was informed by the home’s heritage characteristics, ensuring that the residential renovation remained deeply respectful of its original craftsmanship. Where possible, materials were reclaimed and repurposed—from upcycled copper stone tiles that pave the front doorstep to beautifully re-stained hardwood floors that feel light underfoot.
Upon entry, the hallway’s architectural mouldings and decorative archways transport visitors to another era, subtly reinterpreted through contemporary simplicity. Softly textured artworks, brimming with energy and emotion, introduce a restrained elegance, ensuring that the past guides the design rather than overwhelms it.
There are no competing elements in this home—only a harmonious conversation between materials, furnishings, and light. Generous, deeply comfortable seating, elegant hand-blown glass lighting, and character-rich textures share the spotlight equally, creating a home interior design that is both immersive and effortlessly enjoyable.
A neutral color palette dominates, offering a calming backdrop that doesn’t demand too much of the eye. However, there is one bold exception: the blue room, a jewel-toned reading retreat at the front of the house. Here, navy, ruby, and burnt sienna converge in a layered, moody embrace, merging vintage and contemporary influences in a way that is both unexpected and deeply connected to the home’s character.
Heritage features—stained-glass windows, original crystal chandeliers, shaker-style joinery, and aged brass tapware—are flawlessly intertwined with modern additions, such as steel-framed bi-fold doors that open onto the outdoors. These elements, though distinct, never compete. Instead, they create a rhythm of old and new that feels natural and unforced.
Throughout the home, natural fibres and textural materials reinforce longevity and craftsmanship—linen curtains soften the living zones, while tactile dining chairs, stools, and a beautifully finished kitchen interior design. The double-sided wood fire, surrounded by a mustard leather ottoman, becomes the heart of the home, where family members gather to unwind in the warmth of flickering embers.
